A new teaser for Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey gave viewers a first glimpse at a character played by rapper Travis Scott.

Nolan’s adaptation of the ancient Green epic poem by Homer boasts an all-star cast, including Matt Damon in the lead role as the Greek king of Ithaca who is on his long journey home after the Trojan War to reunite with his wife Penelope.

Tom Holland will play Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, while Anne HathawayZendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert PattinsonCharlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton and Mia Goth will also star.

Yesterday (January 25), a new minute-long teaser revealed another big name attached to the epic. During Fox’s Sunday broadcast of the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos, a scene featuring Jon Menelaus and Holland’s Telemachus is interrupted by Scott, who silences a crowded hall and warns of impending war.

“A war, a man, a trick — a trick to break the walls of Troy,” he announces, as the trailer teases images of the great Trojan War. “It burning, screaming to the ground.”

Shortly after airing, several clips went viral. However, many are being hit with copyright strikes on X/Twitter, leading some fans to believe Scott’s role was meant to remain a surprise for cinema audiences.

The film is set to be released on July 17, 2026, with tickets for some IMAX 70mm screenings, Nolan’s preferred format, having gone on sale 12 months in advance and selling out within an hour.

It’s not the first collaboration between Scott and Nolan, who paired up back in 2020 when Scott recorded the track ‘The Plan’ for Nolan’s Tenet.

In an interview with GQ at the time, Scott kept mostly tight-lipped about the film but did say it was “very fire”, while Nolan heaped praise on the Grammy winning rapper.

“His voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle,” Nolan said. “His insights into the musical and narrative mechanism [composer] Ludwig Göransson and I were building were immediate, insightful and profound.”

One Nolan regular who will not be involved in The Odyssey is Cillian Murphy, who has appeared in six of the director’s films, but has joked that he is “relieved” not to be involved but is “so excited” to see the film.

Page, meanwhile, has spoken of the “joy” of reuniting with Nolan, after having starred in Inception. “I was so excited to be thought of for [The Odyssey] and to be asked to come back to work with him,” he said. “I was just completely jazzed and excited, and [I] basically went and met with Chris and talked about the part, then sat in a room and read the script. It was such a joy to come back.”

The Odyssey comes highly anticipated after the success of Oppenheimer, a biopic of the inventor of the atomic bomb, which made over $975Million (£725Million) at the worldwide box office. At the 2024 Oscars, the film won seven awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Nolan.
